This movie is really proud of its special effects. It's really just one long SFX reel interspersed with some wooden acting and "story". Still love it though. It's Ray Harryhausen's blow out in the best way. The Medusa sequence is the highlight and still holds up very well today. You can see bits of Star Wars and Superman sneaking in here and there. Perseus as Luke Skywalker, crazy ol' Burgess Meredith as a goofy Obi-Wan Kenobi/Yoda hybrid, Bobu as R2D2. The John Williams-adjacent theme music and zoomy star-lit credits.

It is absolutely batshit that this movie was rated PG when R existed. Brutal kills, severed limbs, graphic descriptions, side boob. This movie has it all except I guess bad language? Bruce the mechanical shark holds up today. In some scenes the fact that it's a fake shark is obvious but it doesn't really matter. Sexy, funny and painful: those are the three acts in Anora. The first act is incredibly sexy. It's kind of hard to believe a movie like this was made in 2024. There's a bit of a Poor Things vibe in that the sex is front and center, but in a less distorted and weird way. Mikey Madison is smoking hot and has all the moves. T&A galore.

She starts a whirlwind relationship with oligarch scion Ivan, culminating in an unsanctioned…

What's left to say about The Shining? It's interesting how over-the-top Nicholson plays Jack Torrance. He starts out as a typically latently angry father and quickly accelerates to swinging his arms all over the place and mugging wildly with every line. Duvall effectively plays a terrorized wife and mother on the brink of collapse, but is it really just an act? Lloyd's silent screams rule.

This is my first watch since actually reading the book, and in light of that,…
