Hadn’t seen this since it was in theaters, where I remembered liking it. But man, I didn’t remember liking it this much. So much fun!
Marking it down a bit because the climax is so muddy and dull compared to the rest*.
*It sure seems like the production design was at odds with the tone of the script and directing. It has all the dressing of those plodding, unhappy action movies that are all gunmetal and dirt. The climax is where it really starts to be in conflict, where the lighting is so murky that it gets hard to tell what’s going on.
Whatever happened to just having a simple job where you dedicate yourself to creating a quality product and selling it for a fair price. Now everyone has to have a hustle and diversify and see quarter over quarter growth. Yes I’m talking mostly about selling pickles but it also means bookstores. Hearing the line “the last real bookstore in New York” made me laugh. I wonder how many bookstores have said that about themselves.
