New review after the second watch but with a japanese friend. Still not going to rate it as I am unable to know what is happening on my own. Mainly just wanted to add that the etiquette of japanese people in theaters is something i wish i had in every theater. Not a single purposeful noise until AFTER the credits are done rolling and the lights come on. Fucken amazing.

Fair warning, I watched this movie during my trip to Japan and my japanese is extremely limited so I was left to watch this relying on Miyazaki’s beautiful visual storytelling. This is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen and I cannot wait till till this is english dubbed. Very difficult to try and understand without speaking japanese unfortunately.

wow wow wow!!! There’s this angst that gnaws at you until you finally start to mesh it all together. More obvious to us than to Sophie is her father’s struggle to keep it all together and make sure she has a good holiday while he quietly suffers. He moves away from conversations about happiness and sadness, his deep guttural sob after he writes her an I Love You message, his disregard of his cast letting it get wet, the constant…
