Birdeater 2023
This is probably the first Australian film that I watched in a cinema and I don’t know how to feel about it. It felt a little overstretched, the first how was way too long it bored me, and so many things were happening didn’t really pay-off. I would’ve loved to see Irene’s character develop more especially given that there’s only three women in this film, one mainly intended for an unnecessary nude. There were so much potential wasted.

The Missing 2023
One of the things I like the most about this film is that it didn’t need to show me another loud and incredibly explicit and triggering scene just for its message to come across. It was deeply disturbing, for sure, but it felt like it cared for its audience, or the people who were victims of the same. I felt like I was handled with such care, compassion, and understanding.
And I still feel very conflicted about describing films that deals with abuse as “beautiful” but this one deserves it. Delicate and beautiful.
I’ll rewatch this but maybe after some years - for good reasons.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2023
If you came for nostalgia and beautiful animation, then you’d be overjoyed, but besides that, the story wasn’t so creative and the storytelling was messy. You’d think you’d like the characters more after watching the movie, but they ended up being forgettable; very little impact albeit a lot of charm. The music was good though, and the humor was just okay. Nonetheless, the kids sitting beside us seemed very pleased and I’m sure I would be too if I were still eight.
