  • Snow White

    Snow White

Rachel Zeigler really tries here but this is an absolute travesty.

Gal Gadot is clearly terrible in this as she usually is, the dwarves are terrifying and don’t matter to the plot, the love interest is the most generic character in fiction and Snow White is now just the same as every other modern Disney princess.

This was clearly two different films stitched together and it’s a mess.

  • Black Bag

    Black Bag

    ★★★★

Whilst not perfect, its opening and lighting are definitely a bit off, Black Bag is another really enjoyable film from Steven Soderbergh.

The acting is fantastic all around (lovely to see Cate Blanchett back) with Tom Burke especially being a real scene stealer!

Combine that with a fantastic script, tight direction and pacing that makes the film entertaining throughout without anything other than dialogue and you get a great time at the movies!

    ★★★

Technically brilliant (except for that aspect ratio) with some powerful performances and good cinematography, sadly this just kind of bounced off me as I found Steve to be deeply unenjoyable to watch.

I wish I liked this more but I found this to ring hollow for me.

  • Fanny and Alexander

    Fanny and Alexander

    ★★★★½

I definitely think the first hour could focus more on our titular characters as the intro follows the supporting cast far more however, I would be stupid to deny how much of an achievement this film is.

Some of the best writing and pacing I’ve ever seen, with one of the best antagonists in all of fiction.

Incredible kid acting, fantastic direction, cinematography and score. In terms of filmmaking this is arguably Bergman’s best, combined with some of his most…

    Joker: Folie à Deux

    ★★★½

The strangest mainstream superhero that has ever been made.

The main thing that you gotta know before seeing Joker 2 is that it is a dark comedy, which is an incredibly strange tonal shift from the first that was a very serious drama.

The thing about this tonal shift though is that it’s not immediately apparent, which makes the first hour of this film a weird mess, where you’re not sure what the film is going for and I kept…

  • Paddington in Peru

    Paddington in Peru

    ★★½

One of my biggest disappointments of the year, visually very ugly and lacking a lot of the charm of its predecessors.

The story feels like a weird side quest and taking Paddington out of London really felt like a mistake.

Emily Mortimer sticks out like a sore thumb here and feels really out of place with the rest of the cast, really wanted Sally Hawkins back.

The film is carried by the amazing comedic timing of Antonio Bandaras and Olivia…
