immediate reactionary edit: i cannot believe a movie that genuinely had so much going for it in the form of uncomfortable suave style, musical excess and genuinely gripping drama at points managed to completely shit the bed at the end.
i almost felt compelled to give this a higher rating considering how much i enjoyed everything leading up to the last 45 or so minutes.

this experience directly correlates to my last review, in which i described the current climate of superhero cinema as "dour"--honestly, i do not think there is a strong enough word within the english language that properly encapsulates the loathing i felt any time i tried to pay attention to what was happening on screen. i had fun talking to my friends over it. the cgi was atrocious. i wish kamala khan had her whimsical luffy powers and not whatever this steven universe malarkey is.
