A really sweet story that wonderfully captures the delicate push and pull we all feel with our loved ones. Great performances all around. Fitting use of Chopin for the score.

The Last of the Sea Women 2024
I was lucky enough to witness haenyos in action during a trip to Jeju Island in 2016. By happenstance we encountered a group of them while walking along a pier, and from that brief time I could tell they were extraordinary people doing incredibly physical jobs at such a late stage in life. I’m happy this film was able to do these haenyos justice and go levels much deeper (no pun intended) with such a beautifully shot and emotionally engaging documentary. Their stories need to be told and remembered and this film does that near flawlessly. I’m a sucker for Asian grandma wisdom any day.
