Probably perfect. Editing feels like the product of two dudes w a copy of final cut trying to one up each other on the stupidest shit they can think of. Script feels like this too. The most highly concentrated Bush era film I've ever seen.
Excited to see the sequel but not sure how you follow something like this up.
Late to the party here but yeah it's a damn good one. Especially impressed with the way it wraps itself up, every choice in those last 30 mins or so feels absolutely perfect. As much as I love the antics and comedic timing of the bulk of the film here, the period of reality finally setting in up until that last shot is what drives it home so hard. Mikey went crazy.
Definitely fits firmly in the Bong Joon Ho-verse, but much closer to something like Okja than Parasite. Sucks that it got delayed as much as it did because now 6 years(!) post-parasite I feel like folks are gonna go in with expectations this thing has no plans of meeting. All in, It's just a fun romp w every actor giving their all. Unsubtle as can be but it owns it and is funny as hell. A lot of it is carried by what's maybe my fav Pattison performance ever, didn't know he had a little freak like this in him.
Not sure if this "works" or is "good" but you do hear the phrase "fuck your stupid Megalopolis" multiple times.
Feels painfully unsubtle moment to moment, but somehow when you reflect a little bit on it you realize you don't actually know a damn thing about anything going on. And when you start asking questions the whole thing falls apart. Not sure what actually goes down in Megalopolis? Why are people opposed to it? What do any of these politicians…
