Excellent use of sound; expansive silence, mechanical lift clangings, humming motors, and whirring snow gusts. Coupled with wide shots, almost monochromatic in their palettes, yet punctuated by color (not very vibrant either), the overall effect is oppressive. A fantastic enhancement of the tension between the characters and the emotional repression within the male characters themselves.
A surrealist, contemporary fairytale that is full of pithy micro parables. Clever in its film techniques and its storytelling.
A lot of threads pulled on in this short - anxious preparation and dedication to a feat, universal order, romance, disability, color perception and mutual intelligibility, alienated labor, family illness - but they never end up weaving together into a satisfying narrative or character study. The composition of some of the shots, however, is truly exquisite.

Funny and sad, with a claustrophobic set (ironic that the most expansive environment is the mental asylum). The short express so much character of not just the protagonists but those in their lives and of a certain side of Paris itself. Which is impressive given its length.
