The Substance 2024
Incredible art direction (worthy of all the accolades) and the edit style was strong. Funny, ranging from incredible breakneck pace to glacial depending on the occasion (my cup of tea). Incredible cast, But would I watch it again in a couple years… not so sure. Maybe that’s not a bad thing either. Maybe some films are meant for a moment and that’s it. Burn bright and fast and we watch in awe while it does. Then, I guess we move on.

The Brutalist 2024
Rich, lived in characters, even for ones that only graced the screen for a couple scenes. The intermission made the film feel more like a shared experience. Talking to strangers in the picture house. The edit was right in the pocket for me.
