Very fun, silly movie. I love Godzilla stuff and have really enjoyed the Monsterverse. That said, the writing in this is bad. The actual storytelling is bad. Godzilla spends the first hour powering up for a new threat, but in the final fight it’s not clear that it’s even consequential. He and Kong beat the bad monkey’s ass pretty handily, and the fight really revolves around freeing the big monster from its control. I still really enjoyed watching Kong’s journey…
This is my favorite Christmas movie, and one of my favorites overall. It just works, and I think it's because the point of the movie is the main characters and the dialogue, and less about the case they're working. The movie mostly feels like Murtagh and Riggs having a series of fun interactions while stumbling into escalating evidence and crimes. The pairing of the two leads, is magical.
