overly simple, trashy, boring, appalling lack of eyebrows.

there’s something so skin-crawling about the masks we put on to congregate online, and even more so when our pseudo-personalities bleed into our real lives. sooo exciting that Actors feels like a first exploration of this in cinema, at least in way that feels so… textured??? insane levels of introspection and nuance. brilliant rumination on identity, selfishness, and the emotional planes of performers.

Loved how offputting this was, embraced its lo-fi qualities and played to them perfectly. Really fun way to play with format on a low budget and with somewhat hyper contemporary subjects :-)

Took three times (and viewings at various levels of intoxication) to finally process everything that happens in this, and I think I finally quite like it. Forceful and lively in a way that justifies its experimentation tenfold, while rooted in an incredibly primal and nakedly-unearthed lead performance. Final scenes are a bit clunky, somehow tonally unfit despite the film’s disregard for tone at all. Pulled back very beautifully at the end, though. Mommy loves you❤️

Also big shouts I guess to Caroline Calloway for being the first to do more evil than Peter during a Q&A

This could’ve been ok but I’ve been looking at slow shots of a fucking wall for 2 hours. Hate the genre of horror where it’s “so-boring-that-you-pretend-it’s-artsy”. If you were genuinely scared, chilled, shaken, or stirred by any part of this movie you probably have a heart defect.

one of the wilder but occasionally unflinchingly accurate portrayals of adolescence. evan rachel wood and holly hunter’s performances really tied this film together, especially in the final act. the nagging empathy for Tracy and Evie throughout the film was a gut-wrencher. no matter how destructive their behaviors, i couldn’t help but feel horribly for Tracy and Evie.
