The Substance 2024
There’s a lot to like about The Substance. The Editing, Sound Design, Acting, and Special Effects are all superb. It’s a very well crafted display of icky goo on screen.
I don’t think it’s the feminist masterpiece that I was told it was gonna be. I think it doesn’t so much to critique as it does to portray. Honestly I’m a little tired seeing aging women’s bodies portrayed as something inherently monstrous, even if it’s done so “sympathetically” (looking at you , Barbarian)
This is still fun. You should still watch this. It’s just a little style over substance.
