But with this hyper-fixation on the lack of political context for this fictional conflict, we ignore what director Alex Garland has given American audiences: the lens of familiarity. By setting this film in the US, American audiences are are given the horrors of civil conflict within the familiarity of our towns, our spaces, and our neighbors.…
Probably the Oscar-season film that I thought about the most. The sound editing is a pretty incredible feat for creating such a haunting vibe. There is horror in banality and bureaucracy.
