This is not the film I expected to see but the film I didn’t know I wanted to see. I went into this expecting to get Garland’s take on a dystopian America with all the political commentary that would accompany it. What I wasn’t expecting was an analysis of the ethics of war reporting.

This film was so much weirder than I expected it to be and I mean that in the best way. The humour was offbeat and the plot twist genuinely got me. I almost never say this but I actually think this film should have been longer just so the relationships between the characters could have been given even more depth- I would have loved to see more of those poolside scenes.
Also the casting of this film is so perfect at understanding what women want (I too would have been lulled by a quirky little kiwi stable hand).
