the costume design of the era, the full commitment of the gothic aesthetics and the use (or lack of) colors is amazing.
Definitely one of the best adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula I've seen on film, taking the narrative and making it's own interpretation of the creature.

the narrative is easy to understand while still being slowly and carefully fed to you. it's very good at portraying a single mother's situation raising a difficult —and very annoying— child. it's about how bad isolation, unsolved trauma and bad coping mechanisms can end up in neglect or abuse to the child.

the victorian inspired garments are gorgeous, and the steampunk sceneries were amazing. the visual representation of Bella's feelings and mental state is very well expressed by the garments she uses, their colors, how wide the shoulders become as her inner world grows, she starts to take up more space as well.
i have conflicting thoughts about how the story could've been carried on another way and it would've been even better, but as how it is, i still very much enjoyed this movie. worth a rewatch for sureTranslated from by
