Godzilla Minus One 2023
An absolute masterpiece. With a budget of around 13 million Toho and director Takashi Yamazki created a movie which would have been a very high contender for movie of the year. The shift to a darker tone compared to the recent monsterverse movies worked superbly well and helped me feel more for the characters, which the Godzilla movies aren't typically the greatest with. Godzilla 1954
For a movie of it's time I still found this movie to be enjoyable. The soundtrack still holds up to this day in my opinion with how beautiful it can be but also for how menacing Godzilla's own theme is. The story and tone of this movie are definitely on the darker side which works well and there are some interesting characters too which are also fun to see reflected in the recent monsterverse movies. The camera shots and props used to show off Godzilla's destructive capabilities are excellent along with rare moments of using stop motion. Overall a solid movie even for it's age.
