  Wanted to like this, and for the first thirty minutes or so I did. It's a very silly, funny satire of sci-fi action tropes for those thirty minutes.

  After that? I'm convinced all the reviews stating this movie is "funny" were from people that laugh at any comedy bit that's edited well enough for them to recognize "oh this is the moment I laugh," because most of the actual jokes don't even get up from the ground to land with…

  The Night of the Hunter 1955

  I can't overstate how much I love this movie's turn into a nightmarish, forlorn fable once the children hide in the cellar. It really kicks into overdrive when they escape via Chekhov's skiff. Mitchum's imposing performance is such a perfect match for the shadow play so often emulated by the cinematography. More brilliant every time I see it.

  I'm not sure I've seen a movie capture the weird dullness of Vegas as well as this one. I experienced a nostalgic pang seeing Vegas World, of all places. The early 90s were especially strange here. If you like slow-burners that create a mood and sense of place with minimal dialogue and narrative, this one's definitely for you.
