Fascinating film. My first for Wong Kar-wai, I had trouble following the stories initially but was intrigued by the cinematography and color changes. An enthusiastic  fan of  Kar-wai gave me some clues and insights. The film was more technique and less plot. I do need to watch it again.

    Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe

Werner actually honored his threat to eat a shoe if Errol Morris finished a film.  Morris did it and Herzog carefully sautéed and ate the pair of leather shoes he was wearing when he made the offer.  Herzog also spoke eloquently about the importance this new film , the disturbing authenticity of the people interviewed and why it should be seen by a wide audience.

I changed my rating after watching it again. Hans Landa opening is terrific! Focus on a movies/movie theater is soo clever. Small references to ‘current’ film stars ( Danielle Darieux, Emil Jennings…Tarantino homage:). And , the Third Reich goes up in flames!

My only dislike was Brad Pitt’s southern accent..,strained!

    Blonde

The film ‘Blonde’ has been challenged for objectifying Marilyn Monroe and showing her being manipulated.  Both are true, and I think, the director intended that.

In the film,  Norma Jean clearly prefers her real name, not her stage name. ‘Marilyn’ appeared to be an annoying persona created by the film industry to use her.

Joyce Carol Oates’ book ‘Blonde’ is the source for the film. Oates is a skilled writer who no doubt captured well what was the tragic Norma Jean as did Director Dominick.
