A complete trifle. It wasn’t really that comedic, nor did I ever totally buy the romance. It’s pleasant, it’s corny, it’s schmaltzy, but that’s about it. If you want something that you don’t need to exert any brain power to enjoy, something you could have on while you’re folding clothes, I guess this would do. But it ain’t much more than that.

This was a moving, beautiful, sad, angry (justifiably so), tender movie that I am very glad I saw before it leaves the Criterion Channel at the end of the month. If you subscribe to that service, please take 80 minutes & watch this film. It’s important for historical reasons, absolutely, but it’s also a really good movie about a horrible time in American history. Fuck Ronald Reagan, fuck homophobes, & fuck off phony Christians.

The title sounds silly, but this was actually pretty darn good! Van Helsing is still here, but everyone else is different, & this takes place moments after Dracula ended. It’s an interesting look at the story from another angle, with the titular daughter striving to go clean & failing every time (yes, it’s an early addiction movie). This was one of the more intriguing Universal monster movies (still not scary in the slightest, however, but that is totally OK) & well worth a watch.

Not scary, but that is totally OK, but it’s just good to see these old Universal monster movies with their lovely black & white film, elaborate sets, & lots of character actors. The final fight is good. Of course I felt bad for both Lawrence Talbot & the Creature.
