  I feel like it’s become very trendy to dump on Alex Garland for his lack of subtlety or preachy messaging that didn’t need preached - and at times I think this is very fair (MEN).

  BUT

  I’ve got to say I really enjoyed this film for what it was. Great performances, I personally thought Wagner Moura was the standout but you could probably make the argument for any of the central cast. Visually it was great! Some really stark images…

  Visually this film is stunning. Narratively it could do with some work in my opinion. The twist felt a little telegraphed as did the unravelling that followed. It felt a little odd to have a plot that shared so much in common with ‘revenge’ style stories be centred around a bloke who had it pretty good in the first place - especially in todays climate.

  It’s an experience, and a fun one at that. This bizarre mismatch of genres left me confused at times as to the intended audience or indeed the intended tone. This isn’t necessarily to the films detriment, just don’t go looking for a masterpiece. Nic Cage is at his best putting in an over the top camp performance in the way only he can.
