Fun, campy. The cast makes this fun, but Martin Short is the standout. I was really surprised at how big some of these effects and stunts were for a simple comedy—everything from burning down the whole town to flying the airplane. Fun physical comedy that I enjoyed.

When faced with an extra long movie like this, I just pretend it's a 4-episode limited series and the perspective-shift somehow makes it more digestible.

That being said, I think there is a phenomenal 2-hour movie in here and the length will likely keep many people from experiencing this wild, epic, quiet, devastating story.

I knew nothing about the happenings of Taiwan in the 1960s, so this movie along with some wikipedia exploration to provide context is incredible…

Hot take: Possibly a more impressive and thematically-appropriate distortion of time than Tenet.

This movie is for anyone who’s seen a loved one slowly fade away with old age.

Instead of seeing a man lose his mind from the outside as we often do in movies about dementia, we’re right there with him losing touch with reality. Incredibly sad, and might be Hopkins’ best performance since The Silence of the Lambs.

Also I’m thinking of ending things vibes
