Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai 1999
add this to the “he just like me fr” list. I really like how the pacing of this movie not only reflects the Japanese filmmaking style but also the slow methodical thinking of the main character. this is peak 90s wu-tang fiction. i love me a good don quixote archetype

added a half star for the willhelm scream. bit of a heavy handed trump caricature i can see mark ruffalo having a cheeky self assured smirk over. lots of exposition and convenient plot device characters right to the very end which i don’t feel get satisfyingly resolved. robert pattinson did a good job playing two distinctly different weirdos. felt like i enjoyed the world created but in the end just a little undercooked

Four stars right now because I’m accounting for my seen in theater bias. There was definitely a handful of corny A24 millenial moments and cool high school teacher who says cuss words vibes. But through it all I am impressed with the weaving of emotional and absurd. Asian Americans really are the center of the multiverse.
