A despairing school master watches his world fall apart. Micheal Redgrave gives a wonderful performance, eliciting both distaste and empathy for the ailing teacher. The stiff upper lipped Britishness of it all is part of the charm of the film. Adapted from the Terence Rattigan play of the same name, the dialogue is witty, tender and cruel at the right times. A classic of British cinema that still strikes a chord.

Luscious landscapes and dark, dark humour in 1920s Ireland, a bitter feud between two best friends descends into chaos and calamity. The dynamic between Farrell and Gleeson drives the narrative and is genuinely funny and enjoyable. Jenny the donkey steals the show.

Ever wondered what happened to those lighthouse keepers on the Flannan Isles? This theory is as plausible as any.

A taut psychological thriller that boasts excellent performances from the cast and some stunning shots and camera work. There's an attention to detail in the cinematograhy here that makes it a must to see on the big screen. Small details like the camera bobbing up and down to mimic the movement of water, and the unsettling use of the focus to illustrate how the characters are becoming distant from one another add to the tense atmosphere.

A well executed story on morality, relevant to our times.

It's charming, beautifully animated and has a real sense of youthful adventure about it. There is some great interplay between the characters and starts of great with a particulary humorous scene in the dentist where Aoyama gets the better of the school bully. For me the story stalls in the middle of the second act and the mystery when it's revealed seems a little forced.
