Parasite and Snowpiercer are funny so I was bummed this was less funny and just had funny-texture. Voiceover at the beginning felt like a post-production decision (especially when it is over a silent scene of protagonist meeting love interest, I literally thought, like, I’d rather hear what is happening) and bothered Tyler but more than bothering me on a storytelling level it immediately made me think, oh, this is not going to make me laugh. A friend described this movie as definite proof Kevin Barnes was a bad person. I didn’t particularly get that from this movie so it made me think about my friend’s interpretation of media.
Kevin Barnes kind of seems like he’s been this way the entire time. Sparks replaced a lot of band members over time too but I bet it would only be the focal point of the documentary about Sparks if the filmmaker wanted that..
