Enjoyable. Kinda gave me a better sense of how Anderson got from his earlier films to his more recent ones. "Grand Budapest" might be the archetypal model of his newer films but this one reminds me most of "Moonrise Kingdom," with the small group vs. society theme. This one sits sort of in the middle; I like it better than "Asteroid City" (and have little interest in "Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" or "French Dispatch"). I think he used up…
Dreamy in a way that reminds me of newer films; this doesn't overly care about a plot that always lines up and makes sense, instead opting for evocation and emotion. It drags a tiny bit and the plot is sheer gibberish, but I cried at the ending. I tried not to dock it for being disappointing, but because of other media I've seen, my expectations may have been high. Connery's good in it, I think, as a brute who becomes a king!
