Getting tired of stories that revolve around amnesia just so there can be a plot twist later on rather than actually grappling with what it means to lose your sense of identity and potentially be at the mercy of those around you telling you what kind of person you are.
2 whole stars for Aaron Paul at the end. That was fucked up and I love it.
While I would have loved an adaptation that really embodied the sense of dread and frenzied panic of the short story, The Monkey reeeaaalllyyyy wants you to remember that, at it's core, the story's premise (a death-bringing monkey) is absolutely ridiculous -- so why shouldn't the deaths be, too? Laughed a bunch at some very well set up kills (a couple in the theater remarked that the movie "Chekov gunned everywhere") and enjoyed the classic vibe of small towns where everyone's dialogue sounds like Stephen King has never actually talked to another human being.
Hate to say it, but Nic Cage was not the right choice here. He was the villain for a totally different movie, which was only made worse by Longlegs not knowing what kind movie it is. FBI procedural? Clairvoyant? Satanic? So many questions left unanswered, but honestly the final scene makes me feel like everything was left unfinished :/
