Noriko's Dinner Table 2005
“You all look like lions to me. Let’s be rabbits again” We want to escape the roles imposed on us and avoid fulfilling them. Alma punk 1991
I loved how lo-fi this film was and how it captured the 90s Mexican punk scene. Alma is unapologetic and messy as a character which resonated with me. The use of non-actors did not bother me because I found it made the film feel more earnest by using people from the scene. The surrealist aspects were some of my favorite visually and I liked that it gave some insight into Alma’s headspace.

Real Women Have Curves 2002
This movie was a bit slow paced but I could definitely relate to the aspect of how growing up in an immigrant family, you're expected to prioritize your family first and your needs last. It was a standard coming of age movie and I enjoyed watching it!
