Wow. Society of the Snow is visceral, and J.A. Bayona goes far to portray such a distinctive tragedy so clearly, without over-editorializing the story for dramatic effect or to "captivate" an audience. I ache for those impacted by the Andes flight disaster who have watched Western media parody and repackage this story. Bayona's dignified work will continue to sit with me precisely because he didn't further sensationalize the plane crash. Instead, he humanized the survivors, which is something they've deserved for a long time.

I wish there was more substance. Leave the World Behind borrows from the vault of its apocalypse film predecessors, except for the mild incorporation of more self-awareness about American racism and ignorance. The cinematography was definitely stellar, but not enough to cover for some of the lag in the film's development. I ached for more the entire time and, as someone who hasn't seen "Friends," recoiled a bit at the ending.
Barbie, Barbie, Barbie... the talk of the town you are. I watched this while blazed and went through all of the emotions: I laughed, I cried, and I inflated with joy at all of the colors throughout the film. As an intersectional feminist, I never expected this to be a display of stellar feminism, so I wasn't surprised when it was simply a corporate, mainstream version of feminism packaged to us just like Barbie herself! I still got a laugh out of it and often find myself singing "I'm Just Ken."
