Old Sodey and Rian Johnston are neck and neck in the Contrivance Olympics and I want them both to lose. My theory (with a heavy heart of grief for early/mid Soderbergh): his decade or so of ruthless concision--shaving nanoseconds off of every edit--doesn't make much sense (or read as an achievement) in an era of razor-dull AI slop on Netflix.

Why are people saying this is beautifully shot? It's a cartoon! Without any of the cool cartoon stuff! You don't have to point the camera anywhere! Maybe this is the way filming is headed: complete, rational control.
DIdn't like the sound editing: oddly hollow in many places. Wasn't impressed by a bunch of shit floating across the screen, either. I grew up in Missouri. Seen plenty of bugs and minnows, thank you.
