Unsettling, lo fi horror that awakens the sleeping beast of childhood terror we all felt sitting in an unfamiliar dark room where every shadow looks like it could harbor something insidious. That being said at least half an hour of grainy hallway shots could’ve been edited out, and if you’re wanting cohesive story, plot, or narrative you won’t find it here. Atmospheric would be an understatement describing Skinamarink. It does not let up for 2 hours, never allowing a breath…

I think movie people give this film high praise because they fear they won’t be taken seriously if they don’t. Tarkovsky creates a dream like trek with dialogue and monologues that begin as poetic and sometimes profound which in time gets tired and begin to all sound the same. Is it all allegory for Christianity? Maybe. Is it over celebrated as a film? Also maybe.
