  my parents took me to see this 10 years ago when it was still in theaters. i was 11 years old, unaware of my lesbianism, and very enthralled by rooney mara (still am). i’m pretty sure it was the first gay movie i ever saw, so this review will surely be biased because of my deep fondness for that aspect. needless to say this reallyyyyy awakened something in me at the time… not sure what my parents were thinking taking…

  quiet insular august that leaves you nostalgic for things you never experienced. definitely captures the hippie parent experience and the guilt that comes along with it. i forgot how slow and lonely childhood felt, especially as an only child. this captures that perfectly. the lesbian conversation stuck a knife in my heart. sounds exactly like something my mom would have said to me. 7/10
