    Mickey 17

Sometimes a master director makes a weird one. Mickey 17 is a weird one. It's not tonally out of line with some of Bong's other work, certainly not. But it is his clunkiest and most obvious satire to date. I don't mean obvious as in dumb. I think most of it comes down to getting lost in translation. It's not uncommon for a non-English speaking director to lose something when writing and directing for a different language than their own.…

Sean Baker continues to become one of my favorites working today. His movies are often so funny, yet brimming with empathy.

Movie is great. Shifts in thirds from fantastical romance to screwball odyssey to emotional wallop. One of the best endings I've seen in a long time. Mikey Madison is outstanding. Lots of great goons.

Godzilla × Kong: The New Empire

Silly fun. Godzilla suplexes Kong during their brief scuffle. Kong also uses Mini Kong as a club to beat up a pair of attacking apes. My man Dan Stevens is in it, always great to see. The collateral damage sustained throughout the movie is comically astounding. Humans need to move underground ASAP.

I'm so happy seeing all these monster movies make surprisingly good money these days. I will watch all of them without hesitation.
