Last Night in Soho 2021
I simply don’t get this film’s lukewarm reception. It’s not up there with Wright’s best but it’s still a damn good offbeat horror movie. In a refreshing twist, this is NOT ‘60s nostalgia bait but rather an exploration of the pitfalls of looking back on the past with rose tinted glasses. As opposed to lesser genre films, it’s character driven focus really allows the audience to identify with the two leads (played exceptionally well be McKenzie and Taylor-Joy). Plus, it manages to address social issues in an intelligent, nuanced way. All in all, while undeniably imperfect, this a visually striking and thought provoking joint.
