  I’m going to say something. “True crime” is a net negative. Poisonous even. I’m talking about the 6-part kind on Netflix that we slurp up on Sunday, chattily gossip with our coworkers about on Monday, and completely forget about by Tuesday. Too often stories of real victims who could not escape their doom ironically become escapism themselves. Horrific revelations that took life become dwindled down into nothing more than pop-culture conversation fuel.

  Here it is. The film cinephiles spent the last 12 months lambasting anticipation and expectation into. Did it live up to what I wanted it to be? Wow wow wow yes! Was it more? Maybe even in ways I didn’t personally want for or need. I do have gripes (mainly about an underexplored character or two, and the just over 2/3 point where I wondered if the story was getting off course) but ultimately what a treat to wind up…
