The Substance 2024
A very claustrophobic and stylistically interesting film. Dorian Gray rewrapped so therefore they have the same ending as there is no alternative: to ultimately succumb. There’s no return, you end up as a sad old sack of shit dead on the floor. It’s a common and persistent metaphor, the same cautionary tale of obsession of self but told from each side of the mirror. The imminent and inevitable future or the fading past, and everyone wastes all of their precious time thinking of the other no matter on which side of the mirror they lie. Wonderful

This was a very beautiful but depressing film, what happened to Mollie and her sisters completely broke my heart. So wonderfully shot and paced that watching it felt like nothing, even for such a heavy subject. However, I do agree that a closer focus on the perspective of the Osage nation would’ve been better.
