This movie was made in order to sell more Barbies and Chevrolets. That's it, and although the movie pretends to have more depth than that, it falls on its face at every opportunity to do so. It would rather yell "patriarchy bad" than do something substantial.

The Expendables seems more about celebrity cameos than impactful storytelling. It's an extremely generic movie which doesn't bring anything new to the table action-wise and lacks memorable moments. Most of the cast is clearly getting too old for these types of movies.
Overall, this is basically a slightly worse version of Commando (1985).

I expected a horror movie, but there isn't much horror here. It's basically a murder mystery; starring two darkness-obsessed students who become interested in the work of a local serial killer. The script has questionable parts--overall this is decent though. An obscure well-crafted film which is oddly calm. I haven't read the manga/novel so I don't know how it compares to the source material.
