Subtle, understated and yet poignant. Chris Pine's Robert the Bruce isn't the swashbuckling hollywood hero we're used to seeing in historical war movies; he is quiet, he is flawed, he is a freedom fighter and he is a father. His gentle masculinity moved me profoundly.
The scene where Elizabeth prays, "amen", and then we see Robert praying as well, and he blows out the candle on the eve of war, and morning touches the spiderwebs.... goodness me the cinematography in this movie is breathtaking!
