  A spot of the ole Japanese ultraviolence! Some parts made me feel ill but I was never bored - the pacing is fast fast fast and psychedelic as fuck. Not sure I ever want to watch this again but I won't forget it.

  I love when films pull off the metaphorical, introspective slow burn and still provide a compelling plot. Hereditary gets the hooks in early with its atmosphere, gorgeous cinematography, and layers of emotional nuance. I cannot even begin to understand how Toni Collette pulled out such an amazing, eerie performance for this movie, but she did and I appreciate her so much for it.

  There is a little bit of Fargo in the veins of this movie and its not just because of the icy setting. Characters deal with senseless acts and communal tragedies with tangible feelings; stoicism abounds on the surface but inside there is the constant struggle to stay intact - to not lose that piece of self that they have seen others lose before.

  The film is on the nose in its direction, but all the more powerful because of it.…
