  So.... apparently, this was originally developed by Spielberg and traded to Scorcese to get Schindler's list, which Scorcese decided not to make. And. Scorcese eventually agreed to do this because Universal supported The Last Temptation of Christ and he wanted to have more of a say in making other films. Scorcese fucked around on this one, and I wish more filmmakers would do it too. It's a jazzy, kafkaesque, cartoonish, hitchcockian take on the material, and it's fetching to see…

The 4th episode, in particular, is just phenomenal, and I am happy to see more work from one of the very few self-indulgent and aesthetically distinguished auteurs of this time.
