If the standard for evaluating a movie’s success is whether it can portray the real struggles of ordinary people, then this film isn’t particularly successful. Admittedly, the director has given Anora some character development—she has a special identity (a sex worker) and comes from a dysfunctional family where money and transactions are the only things that matter. But I don’t think that alone is enough to justify it being worthy of an Oscar for Best Picture or the Palme d’Or.…
