  Well acted. Felt very long despite shorter runtime. Slow burn. Emotional but frustrating. Time jumps are easy-ish to follow but not always obvious.

  Absolutely blown away by the scale of this movie, especially for its time. Unreal amount of soldiers sprawling over miles of landscape with detailed and seemingly near-perfect recreations of samurai-era armor/weapons. SFX/mixing are dated but damn good effort. Compelling story that really took its time—but I’m not mad about it. Felt like a forefather to the more modern war/military epic genre, though I’m not sure if there’s any truth to that.

  If it existed, this movie would be #1 nominee for best pacing and intuitive time-hopping. Was looking forward to progressing through each of the story’s time periods that allotted—what felt like—the perfect amount of screen time between time jumps. Rock solid story-telling feature. Props to Hopkins for still getting it done.
