This movie does exactly what a remake should: changes the original, and amplifies.
I will say, the new ending is remarkably American in nature- good guys win, bad guys lose, suburban couple find themselves capable of horrific violence. That being said, the new ending addresses the biggest problem of the original (the son) and once he's addressed, the movie decides (as it should) that the entire ending should change.
