The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920
I know interpretations of this movie as a premonition are popular, but it's still an heavy hitter even as an immediate reflection on the war's aftermath. Expressing the anxieties of those days as a world gone mad, so blasted and twisted, where it becomes difficult to tell where authority ends and abuse begins, is just haunting stuff. It's an articulation that's potent and powerful as any perceived prophecy.

This is one of those Friedberg & Seltzer movies but with a better cast to waste.

Underrated gem. I know this is a Lifetime movie and it does look and move like a TV movie. But the cast redeems all those faults. I want to shoutout the production design too, more authentic and "lived in" than many real films from Hollywood these days. Well worth the watch.

AFTERSUN's melancholic tone and mood rendered an intimate & haunting narrative about the silent suffering underneath our mundane activities & smiling faces.
I caught on what's going on early on but the film showing its hand at the end left me devasted all the same, fucking hell.
This is an stunning debut from Charlotte Wells, looking forward to see what's next.
