This is a shockingly good first go at television by Pixar. It sucks they cut some of the storylines, but admittedly when I was watching it I never thought about it or cared, I was so enraptured by everybody’s lives.

Stranger Than Fiction 2006
Stranger Than Fiction can’t escape the plot holes that its meta device creates, but the journey and characters more than make up for any issues with the story. Dustin Hoffman is a scene stealer, and the last 30 ish minutes of this are just gold. It hits you in all the feels and genuinely makes you ponder not just this ending, but all endings. Even ours in some way.

Everything about this is inconsistent. The performances, the music, the cinematography, you name it. There are fleeting moments of greatness in this, and then immediately ruined by a scene that just made me wonder why the hell I watched this. I think there were two songs in total that I enjoyed, and every other scene when they were singing, I was cringing, bored, and ready to move on.

I haven’t been this conflicted on a film in YEARS. It’s frustrating, but on the other hand, I love it, to have something that makes me think this hard about it.
To start, this film is beautiful, in its darkly twisted way. The cinematography is stunning and flows brilliantly. Not to mention the colors and powerful score.
Joaquin Phoenix also delivers another incredible performance, absolutely deserving of another Oscar nom, if not win. I’m awed by how he can portray…
