I know I'm late to the party but WOW this was one of the most offensive and problematic films I've seen in years. Could understand the farcical tone if it was some kind of slasher comedy revenge piece trying to redress years of gender imbalance when it comes to depicting violence on screen but no, literally the only violent act we see is a 3 minute sequence of a woman being suffocated when this is supposedly meant to be from a feminist perspective?? yet another film upholding the pornification of abuse and yet seems to think it's the exact opposite?? So disappointing

This should be mandatory viewing (playing as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival - you can stream via Barbican for £4 if you're 18-25). An absolutely horrifying exposé of the forced sterilisation of women, specifically women of colour, in Californian prisons that was occurring UP UNTIL 2019. HRW film festival is yet again the ultimate reminder of how absolutely essential filmmaking is to the field of human rights work

Feel like I wanted this to be a more in-depth exploration of diasporic experience in America but maybe the point is that it doesn't have to be. SO refreshing to see a film about the US focusing on characters of different nationalities, and a subtle but important commentary on the intersection of race and class that seems to be often overlooked on screen
