Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992
This was the craziest movie I’ve ever seen .. what were they thinking with the effects?? It does however feel very much like a time capsule of early 90s film which is cool. So gothic, so romantic. I want to know more about why it’s so unsettlingly sexual.

The Zone of Interest 2023
This film did a great job of depicting the desensitization to violence that pervades war and genocide. It’s about a German family living in a pristine garden beyond the wall of Auschwitz where the screams and gun shots no longer register. It takes a real institutionalization of oppression for this reality to exist. We as viewers almost forget what the plumes of smoke signify in the background of the family’s beautiful summer pool party. Alas, the sudden red screen and heightened ambient buzz force us to reckon with the grotesque emotions that should have been at the forefront all along.

Incredible elder representation full of warmth and empathy while also being silly and fun. Beautiful parallel between the grandson and Thelma who are both on the verge of incapability but just need to ask for help. Who knew 20 somethings had so much in common with 90 somethings.
