how do you just like .. make this. like. how do you just like, bring this into existence. how is this real ... how does this kind of evocation of the human, ecological, conscious condition exist. apichatpong weerasethakul, they tell us. i personally think this is a conspiracy. this kind of perfection can surely only be achieved through some kind of divinity .. !
there are of course no words for how brilliant this is. it is unbounded. that is…
i love this film oh so much. i am going to go stream-of-consciousness because I am suffering from post-diss-submission brain fog ...
it makes me understand what melodrama is because it makes me so aware of the emotions coursing through me as I'm watching and Fassbinder himself said that his films were about 'the exploitability of feelings' and here as a spectator maybe you feel exploited to some extent, but your feelings are not exploited for the purpose of irony…
the penultimate shot HURT me. it is so unexpected and so brutal. and yet Pialat doesn't get swept away in the cinematic whimsy of ending on that. it would, in another film, by another director, be the perfect way to end the film. but no. not for Pialat. he returns to the material truth of things, to the core of his film, for one last unrelenting look.
maurice pialat i am obsessed with you!!!
