A Cry in the Dark 1988
Essential viewing.
Australian film always shines in the realm of docu-dramas, but this one hits SO much harder. The number of credited actors alone makes it stand out in its sense of scale, but watching this film you realise that it is a story not just about the Chamberlains, but about all Australians.
The heart of the story is a tragedy, wrapped in these seemingly random but essential 5-10 second scenes of gossipers... in the pub, the newsroom, the tv set, loungerooms and 'ruined' dinner parties.
