I see the relationship in this movie sooo differently as an adult but still have such a soft spot for it, especially all the little filmic flourishes (the dance number, the expectations v. reality scene, etc). Possibly one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. Also felt so seen when Tom’s sister is talking about how all her friends have a crush on him.

So singular and so hilarious. I really admire Torres’ ability to take the horrifying process of immigration in the U.S. and render it with such imagination and humor, but without letting the audience lose sight of that horror. May all the people in this country who are treated unfairly be granted the ability to claim the powers of a Karen and use them for good, not evil.
